Interview: Parker Ford

Today’s installment of the Dirtyville/Kinkyville interview series features Parker Ford, author of Daddy’s Bad Girl in the Kinkyville collection. She shares with us the inspiration behind her work, writing about taboo topics and her favorite stories in the anthologies.

LUX ZAKARI: What initially prompted you to submit your story for the Kinkyville collection?

PARKER FORD: A big vodka and seltzer and a whim.

LZ: According to your blog, you “live out of a suitcase half the time, wish [you were] living out of one the other half” – can you tell readers more about that?

PF: I have a job (to remain unnamed) that has me traveling quite a bit. My guy works for himself so he can travel with me. I must be 50 percent girl writer and 50 percent wanderlust slave because I love being on the road. If we can drive instead of fly, etc., we do. So far, favorite places included Colorado, Utah and West Virginia.

Writing Update

I’m so excited about the novel I’m currently working on, though it’s taking me forever to write. I blame NaNoWriMo for showing me I could bang out a novel in a month. At this point, it’s been several. I blame this on being so particular about my work these days.

This is not an exciting post–I’ve nothing really to say–but what I’m working on now is probably one of my most favorite things I’ve ever written. I want it to be sexy and cool and funny and moving and exciting and, most of all, beautiful and true.

Interview: T. Harrison

Today’s installment of the Dirtyville/Kinkyville interview series features T.Harrison, author of The Good Wife in the Dirtyville collection. She shares with us the inspiration behind her story, how she creates characters and her upcoming works.

LUX ZAKARI: What initially prompted you to submit your story for the Dirtyville collection?

T. HARRISON: I was fortunate enough to witness the birth of the anthology on Twitter. Sommer Marsden is known for saying that her mind can go from zero to dirty in mere seconds, and that day we were all on the train to Dirtyville. Several of us chimed in that it would be a get name for an antho and thus… Dirtyville was born.

I didn’t begin writing The Good Wife until she put out the submission call. Then I labored over whether it would fit with the small town idea. I was surprised and honored to be included in the anthology.

Interview: Shanna Germain

As part of the Dirtyville/Kinkyville interview series, today’s interview is with Shanna Germain, who wrote the story Weather Man in the Dirtyville anthology. She shares with us how travel has influenced her writing, what projects she’s working on next and her definition of a geek.

LUX ZAKARI: What initially prompted you to submit your story, Weather Man, for the Kinkyville collection?

SHANNA GERMAIN: I actually wrote the story with Sommer’s call for submission in mind. I was thinking about the weather and small towns, and then I was thinking about the way that rain can kind of cover and protect us from prying eyes. I thought, “What if this long-term couple has a secret little tryst whenever it rains?” The fact that he is a weatherman kind of came in by accident, and I thought it worked, so I kept it.
