Interview: RHONDA CARVER

Today’s interview is with Rhonda Carver, author of Second Chance Cowboy. She shares with us her thoughts on what makes a sassy heroine, how she challenges herself as a writer and the sequel to Second Chance Cowboy.

LUX ZAKARI: Can you tell readers a little bit about your latest work?

RHONDA CARVER: Second Chance Cowboy is a story of lost love which becomes new love. I actually wrote this story a few years back, and after several rewrites, it was contracted. All the hard work pays off. It releases Nov. 8 of this year.

LZ: According to your web site, you like to write about “smart and sassy heroines.” What makes a smart and sassy heroine?

RC: Smart as in she always has brain power. She is intellectually challenging to the hero and always knows her business. Sassy, well, every heroine needs a sliver of sassiness to keep the hero on his toes.

LZ: You enjoy writing “contemporary, paranormal, suspense and erotica” — what’s your favorite genre?

RC: I don’t have a fav genre, and if I must choose, I’d say all of them.

LZ: According to your Lyrical Press site, you read your first romance novel at age thirteen. Do you remember what it was and what it was about? What about it did you find inspiring?

RC: I wish I could remember the title, I don’t, but I do remember it was a Harlequin.

LZ: How do you challenge yourself as a writer?

RC: I challenge myself by taking a spark of reality and adding layers of passion, fantasy, intrigue, conflict, and love to make a hot and juicy romance novel. I expect a lot from myself, and that means, keeping the readers wanting to keep on reading.

LZ: What can readers expect next from you?

RC: Watch for the sequel to Second Chance Cowboy, aptly named, Another Chance for the Cowboy. It is Lila and Duke’s story. I am very excited with this project. It has conflict galore that’ll make readers scream, “Get together already!”
