Today’s interview is with author Lucy Felthouse, creator of the website Erotica For All and the editor of the new erotic anthology Uniform Behaviour: Steamy Stories about Men and Women in Uniform. She shares with us the inspiration behind the anthology, some advice for beginning authors and just what makes people in uniform so sexy.
LUX ZAKARI: Can you tell readers a little bit about Uniform Behaviour? Where did you get the inspiration for it?
LUCY FELTHOUSE: It’s a collection of sixteen erotic stories, from fourteen different authors, based around men and women in uniform. The idea came because I’d always wanted to edit an anthology. Uniforms are a favorite theme of mine and so I decided to put a call for submissions out and put my own book together. Uniform Behaviour is the result!
LZ: What did you gain from the experience of editing the anthology?
LF I learned quite a lot in editing the anthology. One example being that I’m not quite as good at proofreading as I thought! Overall, though, I found it to be a really fun and rewarding experience, and I’m really glad I got to work with such awesome authors during the project.
LZ: What is it about a man/woman in a uniform that is so sexy?
LF: Why are men in uniform so sexy? I personally don’t find all uniforms sexy. My personal favorites are military uniforms. I suspect it’s because a) men look good in the uniforms and b) something to do with what it represents, e.g., strength, routine, etc. I’m sure there are lots of psychological explanations, but I’m no expert so I’ll just say it’s because they look yummy!
LZ: Do you have any plans to do another anthology in the future?
LF: I’m still waiting to see how this one does – but I’d be inclined to say yes. I enjoyed the process and working with wicked authors, so watch this space!
LZ: What prompted you to create the site Erotica For All?
LF: I felt there was a need for a site where readers and writers could connect. Writers can showcase themselves and their work, run competitions and so on, and readers can come and get all the information and goodies!
LZ: What advice do you have for authors just beginning their writing careers?
LF: Don’t be too precious about your work. You’ll inevitably get better the more you write. I recently looked back at some stories I’d written a few years ago and literally cringed. Luckily, I was able to re-write the story into something much better by being a harsh self-editor. Also, write what you enjoy. Once you get a feel for it, then try branching out into stuff you’re less comfortable with. But hone your skill first.
LZ: What is something you’ve written that was outside your comfort zone?
LF: Only a handful of things as I tend to write what I enjoy. But I find BDSM difficult, and I have written stories purely from the male point of view. But I think it’s important to try and write different things, to stretch yourself. After all, I could end up writing something that takes the world by storm. Here’s hoping, anyway. ;)
LZ: What are some of your writing goals for 2011?
LF: Keep getting published, hopefully! I’m currently working on various calls for submissions. I’d also like to write something longer which has been bubbling around in my head for some time and submit that to a publisher.

Ooh, anthologies are fun. I’m working on my second right now that’s a commission for a horrorfest locally. It’s hard work and I’m not getting paid but it’s rewarding to see how it pulls together.
